Created by Francine Shapiro in 1987, EMDR uses alternating bilateral stimulation, often eye movements, to reprocess traumatic memories. Client-centered, it was first designed for post-traumatic stress disorder, then adapted to anxiety and depression. It aims to reduce traumatic stress and improve self-esteem.
