Born in 2002 (Segal, Williams, Teasdale), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy combines meditation and cognitive therapy. It distinguishes the doing mode from the being mode and modifies, through decentering, the relationship to thoughts, holding that it is this relationship, and not the thoughts themselves, that sustains depression. Its primary indication is the prevention of depressive relapse.
